Rahu Kaal Calculator
What is Rahu Kaal?
According to Vedic astrology, Hindu scriptures, Rahu is an inauspicious celestial entity that exerts malefic effects. Rahu Kaal time lasts for about 1.5 hours each day when Rahu’s influence is the highest. Rahu Kaal varies daily depending on the sunrise and sunset times, making location-specific calculations necessary.
One should avoid doing any kind of auspicious and new work during the time of Rahu’s influence. Traditionally, any activities like Puja, Havan, marriage, purchase of property or starting a business have been avoided during Rahu Kaal time. Rahu creates obstacles in getting your desired results. However, the ongoing work can be continued and Puja-Havan etc. can also be done to please Rahu and related to Rahu.

Calculation Method – How Rahu Kaal is Calculated
Rahu Kaal varies every day based on sunrise and sunset time and follows a specific pattern for each weekday. The daytime (from sunrise to sunset) is divided into 8 equal segments, and each day has a pre-defined Rahu Kaal segment.
Rahu Kaal Segment Mapping by Day:
Day | Rahu Kaal Segment (1 to 8) |
---|---|
Sunday | 8th segment |
Monday | 2nd segment |
Tuesday | 7th segment |
Wednesday | 5th segment |
Thursday | 6th segment |
Friday | 4th segment |
Saturday | 3rd segment |
Formula Used:
Rahu Kaal Start = Sunrise Time + (Segment Duration × Rahu Segment Index)
Rahu Kaal End = Rahu Kaal Start + Segment Duration
Where:
Segment Duration = (Sunset – Sunrise) ÷ 8
Rahu Segment Index is based on the weekday
Example Calculation
Let’s assume you select Delhi, India and the date is May 1, 2025.
Suppose the Sunrise is at 05:38 AM and Sunset is at 06:47 PM.
Total daytime = 13 hours 9 minutes = 789 minutes
Each segment = 789 ÷ 8 = 98.625 ≈ 98 minutes
Now, let’s say the date falls on Thursday, and Thursday’s Rahu Kaal is during the 6th segment.
Rahu Kaal Start = 05:38 AM + (98 × 6) = 03:26 PM
Rahu Kaal End = 03:26 PM + 98 mins = 05:04 PM
So, on May 1, 2025, in Delhi, Rahu Kaal will be from 3:26 PM to 5:04 PM.
